2021 Volkswagen Atlas Named Family Car of the Year by Cars.com

Renown publication Cars.com recently awarded the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas the title of Family vehicle of the year. The Atlas beat the Ford Expedition and Kia Telluride and won over the judges with its incredible driving comfort and impressive handling. Its welcoming third row of seats, as well as its generous cargo volume, also helped win over jurors who appreciated the overall practicality of the 2021 Atlas.

“We designed and built the Atlas specifically for families,” said Scott Keogh, president and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America. “We’re thrilled for Atlas to be named Family Car of the Year by Cars.com for the second year running. Awards like this, along with the sales numbers, are proof that we’re nailing it with this car.”

“The Volkswagen Atlas offers the perfect blend of interior space and drivability that bests its competitors. The second and third rows seat adults comfortably—which is a rarity—and the excellent child-safety seat system earns the Atlas a repeat spot on Cars.com’s Car Seat Check Honor Roll,” says Jenni Newman, Cars.com editor-in-chief. “An added bonus is the cargo space: The Atlas offers plenty of room behind the third row to fit all the items families need for short and long trips. The Volkswagen Atlas is a family-friendly SUV that endures the test of time.”

Criteria for the award received also include crash test results, safety features and welcoming nature of the vehicle to all family members, as well as their property.

The 2021 Atlas also stood out with its range of driver aids, both standard and all others that are available as options. The vehicle also received an A rating in the Car Seat Check category from Cars.com in 2020 and 2019.

The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas is offered with three trim levels, Comfortline, Highline and Execline. Two engines are available, either a 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder offering 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, or a 3.6-liter V6 that offers 276 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard with all variants.
