The seven-seat Atlas makes its way into the 2021 model year with refreshed features. The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas offers more power
With two powertrain choices, the Atlas features more options than the CX-9. Most models offer a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder that outputs 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Buyers can also opt for a 3.6-litre six-cylinder that produces 276 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. They both achieve more horsepower than the CX-9 in regular circumstances.
The CX-9's 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder can only produce 250 horsepower if using 93 octane gasoline. Otherwise, it produces 227 on regualr 87 octane. If you want better and smoother horsepower on your fuel budget, then the Atlas has the better powertrain.
The 2021 Atlas also features an eight-speed automatic transmission with a start/stop system and regenerative braking. The CX-9 only offers a six-speed automatic.
The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas has a roomier interior
Every occupant of the Atlas enjoys a comfort advantage over the CX-9. In the front row, the Atlas has 30 mm of additional head room, 91 more mm of shoulder room, and more legroom. The second row boasts significantly more headroom and shoulder room. In the third row, the Atlas has 74 more mm of headroom, over 100 additional mm of legroom, and more shoulder room.
When it's time for a family trip or convert your Atlas into a cargo-carrying hauler, you will have plenty of room. Over 2,740 litres of cargo volume are available with the seats folded. Or you can fold down the third row for 1,572 litres behind the second row. You can also configure seat positions to have more flexibility when passengers and cargo need to share space. No matter how you configure it, your Atlas has considerably more cargo capacity than the CX-9.
The Atlas has many other features that add value. One of these is the special, 4-year/80,000 km limited warranty. It's one of the industry's best, and it lasts longer than the CX-9 3-year limited warranty.
