The Tiguan rolls into the 2021 model year with excellent value, a powerful powertrain, attractive styling, and plenty of room with an available third row. It's a perfect family vehicle that offers plenty of safety layers, from advanced construction to some of the latest driver assistance technologies.
The Tiguan finds itself in a segment with several competitors. Here, we compare the 2021 Tiguan with the 2021 Nissan Rogue to illustrate how the Tiguan is a better SUV.
The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan is more responsive
The Volkswagen Tiguan features a single powertrain that creates responsive power and an edge over the competition. Each model includes a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder that outputs 184 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. The Rogue offers a 2.5-litre four-cylinder that generates 181 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. But there is an even bigger catch to the Rogue's numbers.
The Tiguan's full horsepower develops at 4400 rpm, whereas the Rogue's peak horsepower doesn't begin until 6000 rpm. Drivers have to push the Rogue much harder to get close to the Tiguan's benchmark. The difference is even greater when achieving torque.
The Tiguan reaches full torque at just 1,600 rpm, contrary to the Rogue's 3,600 rpm. The Tiguan can thank its better engine calibration for these results, but its advanced 8-speed automatic transmission puts the power to the ground in a much better way. The Rogue’s continuously variable transmission (CVT) cannot provide this level of excitement.
Volkswagen backs up the 2021 Tiguan
Every new 2021 Tiguan features warranty coverage that offers more than the Rogue in key areas. That's important to protect your investment. Each Tiguan includes a 4-year / 80,000 km new-vehicle limited warranty (excluding wear & tear items after 12 months / 20,000 km). That's an additional year / 20,000 km longer than the Rogue's basic warranty.
The Tiguan also leads over the Rogue in corrosion perforation warranty protection, including a 7-year / unlimited km plan. The Rogue limits this protection to five years, around the time when winter salt and other materials begin to take their toll on our cars.
Volkswagen Parts are backed by a 2-year / unlimited-km limited warranty from the date of purchase. Batteries feature a 3-year / unlimited-km warranty. The Rogue only offers a 1-year / unlimited-km parts warranty.
