The Volkswagen ID.4 caused quite a stir when it arrived last year, but that's nothing compared to the excitement it will generate in 2023. First of all, critics are unanimous: this is a very interesting electric SUV. It's enough to get the crowds going.
Then, a new variant is added this year, as an entry-level proposition. This makes the lineup even more attractive. Let's take a look at the three models offered.
ID.4
The new variant simply takes the name of the vehicle. It is offered with a single engine configuration, like the mid-range model. The power output is therefore 201 horsepower also for the latter. The difference is that the battery is smaller at 62 kWh (58 usable), compared to 82 kWh (77 usable) for the other two models.
That translates into a reduced range of 336 kilometers, which is still very good.
What it has done is lower the price by $1,000 compared to last year's base model. So we're talking about a starting price of $43,995 with this model. It's $47,995 now with the next version in the lineup.
And the equipment remains generous, whether it's in terms of safety or convenience with heated seats and steering wheel, and even a heated windshield.
ID.4 Pro
The Pro version is back this year and it still offers a rear-wheel drive configuration. Because of its larger battery, it can travel longer distances, specifically 443 kilometers on a single charge. Again, the equipment is rich.
In fact, the first two models can take advantage of the $4,700 Statement Package. This package introduces a host of features, from heated rear seats to illuminated door handles, a three-zone climate control system, front massage seats, and 30 custom color schemes.
With the all-wheel drive model, you get four-wheel drive in exchange for a bit of range, 410 kilometers instead of 443. The equipment is also rich and more selections available in the options catalog. For example, in addition to being able to choose the Statement package and other packages offered with the Pro version (panoramic glass roof) and the base and Pro models (heat pump package, wheel package), the AWD version can enjoy the "black roof" package that also adds silver roof rails.
What we remember is that you can get a really complete equipment with all the variants. You get more with the Pro AWD model, but it's possible to build an ID.4 to your liking by being smart with the options.
