2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport vs 2020 Chevrolet Blazer

2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport vs 2020 Chevrolet Blazer

If you're looking for a mid-size SUV, it's probably because your sedan or compact SUV no longer meets your space and lifestyle needs.

Needs such as space, versatility, safety and efficiency have become priorities for consumers. While many car manufacturers have focused on these elements at the expense of style, driving pleasure and even personality, Volkswagen has always believed that it was important to incorporate some German engineering for those who still like to drive in all types of models, even a mid-size utility vehicle like the new 2020 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport.

The launch of the Volkswagen Atlas a few years ago changed the way SUVs should behave on the road. The all-new Atlas Cross Sport takes the lessons learned from the three-row SUV and refines them for this sportier mid-size SUV. The new Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport isn't the only one that intends to infuse more character to the typical mid-level SUV, however, as Chevrolet recently introduced the Blazer. Let's compare the two.

Let's start under the hood where the Blazer offers a 2.5-liter, 193-horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine as standard. The Blazer is a little more affordable than the Atlas Cross Sport, it is true, but its base engine is much less powerful and it is a front-wheel drive vehicle. The Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport offers a 235-horsepower four-cylinder turbo engine and more importantly, it comes standard with a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system. The other option is a robust 3.6-liter V6 developing 276 horsepower. In both cases you get a powerful engine that is smooth and refined when it needs to be, and quick to react and immediate in its response when you want to get off the line or pass with confidence.

On the road, the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport feels quite a bit more connected to the road than the Blazer. The German origins of the Atlas Cross Sport truly shine through on a winding road or when you’re looking to have fun behind the wheel.

The Atlas Cross Sport also offers more cargo space with 1,150 liters of cargo space compared to just 864 liters for the Blazer. This is a huge difference, especially when you buy a sport utility vehicle for the interior space. Regardless of whether you are a young family or an active couple that needs a lot of trunk space, you’ll quickly run out of room in the Blazer, the smallest mid-size SUV in the segment.
