From Microbus to Modern: Volkswagen Celebrates Heritage with ID. Buzz Makeover

June 2nd marks the second annual International Volkswagen Bus Day, a special holiday for die-hard fans of the iconic VW Bus to celebrate the vehicles they love. This year, Volkswagen is marking the occasion by launching an exciting new customization program for the all-electric ID. Buzz - allowing owners to create truly one-of-a-kind designs for their modern van.

International VW Bus Day began in 2023 as a way to honour the beloved Type 2 Microbus and its enduring place in pop culture while also unveiling the long-awaited ID. Buzz as its spiritual successor. The original VW Bus was a counterculture icon, embodying the adventurous, free-spirited zeitgeist of the 1960s—the ID. Buzz aims to rekindle that magic for a new era of electric mobility.

Introducing the ID. Buzz Custom Graphics Program

For 2024, Volkswagen has partnered with Wrapmate to offer ID. Buzz buyers the ability to customize their van's look through a state-of-the-art 3D configurator tool. "This program allows ID. Buzz owners to express their individual style and enhances the overall ownership experience," said Chris Loar, Wrapmate's CEO. Starting June 2nd in beta mode, the configurator lets users digitally design decals and wraps to visualize on their ID. Buzz in real-time. "It offers a creative platform to personalize with both new designs and heritage nods," noted Robert Gal, VW Accessories Manager.

Using the slick 3D configurator, owners can let their imagination run wild creating a totally unique ID. Buzz design. All graphics are produced with ultra-durable 3M vinyl for vivid colours that last. Orders can then be placed online or through VW dealers, with Wrapmate's certified installers ensuring a flawless professional application.

To kick things off, VW has collaborated with famed artist Dr. Bob Hieronimus on the first special release "Love the Earth" graphics set. Hieronimus' iconic 1960s "Light Bus" mural was a symbol of the Woodstock era's peace and unity. His new "Love the Earth" motif tastefully reinterprets that imagery for the ID. Buzz, featuring the phrase written in 25 global languages - a powerful environmental message.

The 2025 ID. Buzz: A Modern Classic

The long-awaited Canadian arrival of the 2025 ID. Buzz in late 2024 seamlessly blends the beloved design DNA of the classic Bus with modern, emissions-free EV power. With its boxy styling, bold color palette, and spacious, flexible interior, the ID. Buzz is both a stylish family hauler and tribute to VW's iconic heritage. Rear-wheel drive models boast an estimated 282 hp, while dual-motor AWD variants crank out 335 hp for extra zip.
