Volkswagen Canada has taken the wraps off the latest editions of its popular SUVs, the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport. The manufacturer's suggested retail prices for the 2024 models start at $49,995 for the Atlas, while the Atlas Cross Sport is slightly lower at $48,895.
The 2024 Atlas family benefits from a significant overhaul, boasting an enhanced interior replete with premium materials and a sophisticated design. The introduction of standard high-end comfort features such as a three-zone Climatronic system, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and the IQ.Drive suite of driver assistance features, elevate the experience to a new level.
Replacing the previous four-cylinder and VR6 options, a new standard 2.0-litre turbo powertrain brings a more energetic performance to the Atlas family along with improved fuel efficiency. The engine, a four-cylinder turbocharged and direct-injection TSI, delivers an impressive 269 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque, resulting in an enhanced drivability and acceleration.
Volkswagen has also added the rugged Peak Edition trim to the Atlas lineup. This new model brings unique interior and exterior features, accentuating the refreshed look of the 2024 lineup.
The Atlas offers four trim levels, including the newly introduced Peak Edition. The Atlas Cross Sport, on the other hand, comes in three trims. All models are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and Volkswagen's standard 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system.
Despite maintaining the same underpinnings of the outgoing models, the 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport shine with an extensively upgraded interior. The premium materials like a leatherette-trimmed soft-touch dash, a centre console, and seamless front-row door trim flowing into the dash panel create a luxurious feel. With ambient lighting offering 30 colour choices, backlit dash décor featuring the model name, and quilted leather seats with a diamond stitch pattern in top-of-range models, the new design undoubtedly exudes a sense of elegance and sophistication.
The comfort features in the 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models also see significant enhancements. A heated steering wheel with shift paddles, ventilated front seats, and a height-adjustable passenger seat, as well as a three-zone Climatronic automatic climate control, are now standard. The redesigned centre console now comes with a storage cubby underneath for increased practicality.
Volkswagen Canada anticipates the arrival of the 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport at dealerships in the third quarter of 2023. With their significant interior upgrades, refined powertrains, and introduction of a rugged new trim, the latest iterations of these models promise to provide an enhanced driving experience for Canadian customers.
